‘Safe’ laptop turns up two weeks late

WHEN first-year BA student Nomsa Hlatshwayo handed in her laptop for safekeeping to Campus Control for safekeeping during the recent vacation she expected to get it back on her return. Instead it took her two weeks to retrieve the computer.
Hlatshwayo said that she booked in her laptop to security on the last day of term. The next day she asked them to hold on to it and was assured that it would be safe.
Hlatshwayo said that when she returned to campus, she went to Campus Control to pick up her laptop, but was told it was no longer there.
Campus Control ran an investigation to recover the laptop which at the time was not declared stolen, just lost in the system.
Campus Control investigators became suspicious and started to review the check-in and check-out route of the laptop.
The laptop was subsequently discovered and handed to Hlatshwayo, two weeks later.
